Valentine's Day:  What's love got to do with it?

My ex-husband hates Valentine's Day.  Absolutely hates it.  (To be fair, he pretty much hates all holidays.)

Like a lot of people, he grumbled and cursed at the commercialization of love.  He would rant about how couples should always treat each other well, not just one Hallmark day during the year.  He refused to celebrate it in, well, any fashion, really--even if it was just the two of us taking the day to spend time together, no commercialism involved.

There are many reasons he's an ex.

Let's just say Greg is a phenomenal upgrade.

Me?  I like Valentine's Day.

Picture
I do.  I really do.  I like the overtures, whether little or grand, that tell me I am loved for who I am--or in spite of who I am, as Victor Hugo would say.  And I'm not just talking about romantic love, which is . . . nice, but not always as enduring as the poets and filmmakers would like us to believe.

So, I like to celebrate all kinds of love.

Picture
Sisters.  BFFs.  A good bromance.  Parent-child (one of my most poignant memories as an MT was working on a father and his teenage son back-to-back; the father worried he was losing touch with his son, but it was his son's idea to go for massages as a way to bond together).

Picture
I'm also a huge proponent of self-love, of being comfortable in one's own skin.  Massage is one of the best forms of self-care, hands down (sorry, couldn't help it).  Time to oneself (or with one's beloved), away from the kids, the job, the bills . . . what could be more precious than that?

Spreading the love

So, in order to help you share the love (with yourself or others), I've got a couple of offerings.  If neither of these float your boat, gift certificates for our standard services will be available for online purchase and for pick-up.

Valentine's Day Couples Session
~ LIMITED APPOINTMENTS!

Picture
We have three, count 'em, THREE of these available, and only on the big day itself:
  • a true couple's massage:  one room, two tables.  No opening a door in between rooms or any of that nonsense.
  • an hour and a half full-body relaxation massage
  • free essential oil upgrade available
  • hot towels and warm stones to enhance the experience
  • champagne and chocolates
  • BEST OF ALL:  a full half-hour after your session to lounge, snooze, chat, or just appreciate being with each other.  Just imagine--no rush to get off the table, no feeling of hurry.  Take time to let it all soak in.
  • BONUS!  Gift bag of hand-selected goodies to help continue the TLC at home.

Massage and facial combo

Is time alone what your Dear One's heart craves?  Something that will nourish from the inside out and the outside in?

Once again, we've paired up with the illustrious Nikki Edinger at Spa Ooh La La for a truly one-of-a-kind offering:  a fully customizable massage and facial combo.
  • choose from an hour or hour and a half massage; guest may determine what sort of treatment plan they would like at time of appointment
  • classic European facial with treatment and products custom-tailored to client's exact skin needs at time of service
  • gift certificates available for online purchase
  • online booking available for scheduling purposes
  • BONUS gift bag and goodies for gift certificates picked up in town or combo services performed in February

And one last plug for a good cause!

Once again, Off the Beaten Path and the Chief Theater are hosting performances of Eve Essler's The Vagina Monologues.  Once again, I am donating a couple of gift certificates to their Mr. E Box full of door prizes.

If you aren't familiar with The Vagina Monologues, OTBP has more info here. The performances are always powerful, and profits go to a local nonprofit serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence here in Routt County.

As Elwood Blues said . . .

" . . . please remember people, that no matter who you are and what you do to live, thrive, and survive, there're still some things that make us all the same."

Here's to you and yours during this oh-so-controversial season of love.

My best to you all, and I hope to see you soon.

E.

When not doing massage, Erica can often be found doing yoga, chasing goats, or puttering in the kitchen.  On occasion, these activities have been known to overlap.
