Get out of jail free!

Holy.  Cow.  LOTS going on this month.  MOO.

Where do I start? Stuff to talk about includes Steamboat Independent Spa, EveryBODY Deserves a Massage (aka "Get Out of Jail Free!"), Justin's finish, LiveWell Colorado and Weigh and Win, and Riddle Me This!  Maybe more.  I just. Don't. Know.

Wait, what was that "Jail" thing you were talking about?
American Bodywork and Massage Professionals--the professional association I belong to--sponsors "EveryBODY Deserves a Massage" week every year, 'round about the third week of July.  Basically, people bring in canned food for $X amount off a massage, yadda yadda, that sort of thing.

What I'm doing?  Get out of jail free.
If you're one of my frequent fliers and have fallen off the wagon, 3 cans of food will get you back in my good graces for the next month. You can pick right back up at your discounted rate and feel good both inside and out.  If you haven't lapsed in your massage schedule But Still Want To Do Good, 3 cans of goods will net you an extra 10 minutes of session time and lots of good karma.  Canned goods will be donated to Lift-Up.  Offer valid through August 20, 2012.

Other deadline stuff
Some of you may have seen articles in the Pilot about this, but LiveWell Colorado is involved in a weight loss and fitness program called Weigh and Win.  Enrollment is free, and they actually pay you to lose weight.  They use the body mass index, or BMI, as their tool of measurement--the BMI definitely has some issues, but it's useful for a number of people.

You can sign up online, but to complete your enrollment, you have to weigh in at one of the Weigh and Win kiosks--and here's where the deadline comes in.  Over the past couple of months, a traveling kiosk has been moving all over Northwest Colorado.  Currently, it's at YVMC, where it will stay until July 31st.  Then it goes on walkabout again, returning to YVMC in October.

So if you're looking to shed some pounds, this might be a good incentive for you.  I've gone ahead and signed myself up, and if anyone wants to join me on a team, I would dearly love the extra motivation.  I can also provide people with a free 30-day pass to Anytime Fitness, in case anyone has been thinking about a gym membership but isn't sure of their commitment level.  Just let me know!

Speaking of fitness
I've had a couple of people ask about Justin from the Tour Divide race last month.  I am delighted to report that he came in 21st--and, I believe, was the first single-speed racer to finish.  Yay Justin!

Steamboat Independent Spa
One of the good things about going to a spa is the potential variety of services available (massage, facials, mani-pedis, and so forth).  The other is the ability to book multiple sessions at the same time.  I looked around a couple of months ago and realized that if the women in my office building all joined forces, we could do the exact same thing.  Some of us had done it a few times over the winter when we had groups of clients come in, but we decided to take it one step further.  We pooled our resources together, did a bit of joint advertising, and Steamboat Independent Spa was born.

In a nutshell, we all still own our own businesses and people can book with us separately, but we can offer a richer experience by working together.  Say your best friend comes to visit and you both decide you want a spa day.  Come see us and get massages at the same time, or one person gets a massage while another gets a facial, or both get a massage, then a facial, then your toes done!  You can feel good knowing that you are supporting independent women and their small businesses.

Riddle Me This!
Last month's question was about TMJ:  what and where is it?  The correct answer is "temperomandibular joint," or where the jawbone connects to the skull.  It does NOT, as most people think, stand for a dysfunction regarding the joint (TMJd), just the joint itself.

That's okay.  If you answered that TMJ stands for jaw problems, I'll still count that as correct.

Now, on to this month's question!

Where is the calcaneus?

Email me if you think you know the answer!  Correct answers enter you in a contest to win a FREE half-hour upgrade!

Now, while I still have two brain cells that are talking to each other . . .
I'mma sign off.  This weekend sees me running off to the wilds of Wyoming to go dye stuff and spin wool into yarn.  Nevermind that I don't know how to knit or crochet.  Details, details.

When not doing massage, Erica can often be found doing yoga, chasing goats, or puttering in the kitchen.  On occasion, these activities have been known to overlap.
